Nazrul Islam Khan, who is also the Prime Minister’s Political Adviser, said extensive preparations are underway to make the rally a major event marking International Workers’ Day 2026. Preparatory meetings have already begun and will continue until May 1.

He described May Day as a symbol of workers’ struggle for rights, including the demand for an eight-hour workday, fair wages, and a humane working environment. He said the spirit of the movement continues to inspire not only workers but also oppressed people worldwide.

Khan expressed hope that this year’s rally would be a historic one with massive participation of workers. He said the programme is being organized through donations, highlighting the party’s self-reliance.

Referring to the labor movement’s history, he noted that workers’ struggles in the late 19th century laid the foundation for global labor rights. He also urged journalists, describing them as part of the working community, to support the success of the event.

He said this year’s May Day demands will focus on the implementation of previous demands that remain unfulfilled, rather than raising new ones.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Sramik Dal President Anwar Hossain, General Secretary Nurul Islam Khan Nasim, and leaders from central and city units, along with representatives of various trade unions, were present at the press conference.
