Dhaka: Tarique Rahman’s Return and the Global Media Narrative of Bangladesh’s Next Leadership: In recent times, foreign media—particularly Indian media outlets—have increasingly referred to Tarique Rahman as a Prime Minister-in-waiting.

His return to the country after a prolonged period of exile has been portrayed by many international and regional media organizations as a positive political development.

A section of political analysts believes that this coverage is not merely a reflection of personal popularity; rather, it represents international recognition of Tarique Rahman’s central role in Bangladesh’s evolving political landscape.

The significance given to his return by Indian media, in particular, has led many to assume that a quiet or tacit diplomatic support for the BNP from India is gradually becoming visible.

Within Bangladesh’s domestic political context, this reality became even more evident on the very day of Tarique Rahman’s return. The massive public turnout, along with the presence of party leaders, activists, and ordinary citizens, convinced many observers that the BNP is currently the most popular political party in Bangladesh, and that Tarique Rahman is, at present, the most popular political leader in the country.

This popularity has not remained confined within national borders.

Beyond the subcontinent, influential television channels and international media outlets across Europe, the Middle East, and other regions featured news of Tarique Rahman’s homecoming as headline stories and front-page coverage.

Television news bulletins devoted significant attention to discussions about his political future. Across many international media analyses, one message appears to emerge clearly:

Tarique Rahman is being viewed not merely as the leader of a political party, but as Bangladesh’s potential next Prime Minister.
Both domestically and internationally, his return is being seen as the beginning of a new political chapter, one that may reshape the direction of Bangladesh’s future leadership.
